These images are part of an ongoing personal project about the search for my Portuguese grandfather Adolfo who was last seen in 1977 in Rio de Janeiro, which was under military dictatorship during that period, where he had moved to from Anais, a small in North Portugal where he was born and raised. It is presumed he had emigrated to Brazil in the early nineteen sixties, although this is not clear.
These old, faded and yellowed pictures, some brief notes and one letter are the only clues I have towards my grandfather’s whereabouts and to try to discover if he is still alive (he would be 96) and if so, where in the world he might currently be.
Luckily I was able to track down a part of the family in Anais. My mother and I had the opportunity to meet them for the first time in December of 2019 where we spent great time together over the Christmas period and I was able to record the moment by making some images.
Unfortunately they had no useful information about Adolfo that could help with my search, however they could share some anecdotes about him which helped shape a little about his character.
I hope to continue this project once I’m able to travel again to Brazil and make some more connections.

Estas imagens são parte de um projeto pessoal em andamento sobre a procura do meu avô português que foi visto pela última vez em 1977 no Rio de Janeiro, durante o período da ditadura militar a qual estava ocorrendo no Brasil, onde ele estava vivendo desde que deixou Anais, uma pequena cidade no norte de Portugal, onde ele nasceu e foi criado. Presume-se que ele imigrou para o Brasil por volta do início anos 1960.
As fotografias antigas, desbotadas e amarelas, alguns bilhetes e uma carta eram as únicas pistas que eu possuo para decifrar o paradeiro do meu avô, para descobrir se ele ainda se encontra vivo (ele estaria com 96 anos) e caso positivo, aonde no mundo ele poderia estar atualmente.
Por sorte eu encontrei uma parte da família em Anais. Eu e minha mãe tivemos a oportunidade de conhecê-los pela primeira vez em dezembro de 2019, onde nós passamos um ótimo tempo juntos na época de fim de ano e eu consegui registrar o momento, fazendo algumas imagens.
Infelizmente eles não tinham nenhuma informação sobre o Adolfo que pudesse me ajudar a encontrar-lo, mas em contrapartida eles compartilharam algumas anedotas sobre ele as quais me ajudaram a moldar um pouco mais suas características.
Eu pretendo continuar esse projeto quando tiver a possibilidade de estar no Brasil novamente e buscar novas conexões por lá.
